Millions of People Sharing With Each Other Every Day
On 10 and 11 May I attended the 8th National Public Affairs Convention held In Sydney and on 24 May I attended a New Trends in the Media conference held in Canberra. Both events were fantastic and I recommend anyone interested in Communications to go along to them next year. They were quiet interesting and informative and got me thinking and extremely intrigued in the recent revelation in Media as that was the main focus of both.
Social Media is biggest revolution in Communications since the internet began. It has become so popular because it is social, entertaining, open, honest and in real time.
The new trends known as Social Media is the sharing of information, opinions, insights and experiences through text, images, audio and video via the internet.
Millions of people of all ages, culture and profession as well as many businesses have taken to the new trend and it is expected that a lot more will. Some professional communicators such as newspaper and radio journalists are concerned that Social Media will bring an end to media through newspapers, radio and television. The ABC however, have embraced the revolution by buying an island in Second Life and with most of their programs creating and maintaining a MySpace.
Some examples of social media websites are:
